I am using Corel Paint Shop Pro X, but this tutorial can be followed in any paint program with a smudge tool.
1. Draw the outline of the dress. To make it look more Princess-y, 'poof' out the sleeves.
2. Fill in with a lighter colour.
3. Using the outline colour, draw on the creases. Try to make it look as realistic as possible, by using thinner lines.
4. Using a lighter colour than the fill colour, draw on the dress highlights. Try not to make them wipe out the original fill colour. It helps to use a size 1/2 brush.
5. Now using the smudge tool (opacity around 69) smudge the shading. Don't smudge too much, or else you will lose the detail.
6. Lastly, you could maybe add a lace trimming, or a pattern, to make the dress fit for a Princess.
